A lawyer has recounted how a tenant sold his Landlord's house in Lagos for Eighty Three Million Naira (N83,000,000.00) and disappeared with the money without a trace. The revelation was made today on TikTok by a lawyer who specialises on property matters and goes by the moniker theomonilelawyer.

According to the legal practitioner, the tenant whose name is Onyeka, was well known in the neighborhood and had lived in the property for seven years before carrying out the criminal act. The Lawyer explained in the video that the property, a four-bedroom duplex at Okota area of Lagos, was fraudulently sold for N83 million, after which the tenant vanished into thin air with the money.

The lawyer revealed that the tenant forged documents, which included deed of assignment, survey plan and receipt from the Okota family. Thereafter he gave the forge documents to an agent to search for a buyer for the property. The Lawyer explained that the buyer failed to consult the community development association or take other necessary steps to verify the authenticity of the documents or the true ownership of the property before payment.

After payment, the tenant requested that the unsuspecting buyer should give him four months to vacate the property, on the excuse that he needed time to move to his new accommodation.

According to the lawyer, the buyer moved into the property after the tenant vacated. But the fraud was exposed when the landlord’s agent visited the property to pursue the renewal of rent and to also inspect the property. He was shocked when he found a new tenant in the house, thinking the former tenant had sublated the property.

Meanwhile, the real owner of the property who was abroad had to return to the country immediately he was alerted about the incident. The matter has since been reported to the Police and is currently being investigation.
